The Air Max 90 was released in 1990 under the name Air Max III and was designed by Tinker Hatfield, who trained as an architect. Hatfield took elements from the Air Max 1 and the 1989 Air Max Light, enlarged the visible Air unit so it stood out much more, and sharpened the profile, drawing inspiration from Italian sports cars. That aggressive profile is covered here in leopard print, one of the boldest variants in the catalog.
The silhouette is unmistakable: a stepped midsole, a visible Air window in the heel, layered panels with wide eyelets, and the lateral Swoosh integrated into the construction. In this version, the animal print is applied to the panels with a short-pile finish, while the reinforcements and base keep neutral tones so the print does not compete with the model's structure.
