The Air Force 1 was released in October 1982 and designed by Bruce Kilgore. It was Nike’s first basketball shoe with Air cushioning, and its shape did not come from basketball: Kilgore was inspired by a Nike hiking boot called the Approach, whose lowered heel relieved pressure on the Achilles tendon. Even the cupsole pattern has an unexpected origin: the floor plan of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. This Retro Premium version replaces the classic laces with ribbon laces and dresses the shoe in Hydrogen Blue.
Low profile, a heel panel with a metal tag, perforations on the toe box, and the thick rubber cupsole with its distinctive pattern. Here, premium off-white leather provides the base, while Hydrogen Blue appears on the Swoosh and details, and the wide ribbon laces completely change the look of the upper.
