ASICS has one of the longest histories in sports footwear: the company was founded in Japan in 1949 as Onitsuka Tiger and was renamed ASICS in 1977. The Japan S draws from that archive, specifically classic basketball sneakers: a low-profile silhouette with a more structured shape, a court-style toe box, and retro-inspired colorways. Its vintage basketball aesthetic is completed by court-specific details inspired by the footwear seen on the hardwood in the eighties. The PF initials indicate the platform version.
Up top, it is the familiar Japan S: overlapping leather panels, a clearly defined court-style toe box, ASICS side stripes, and a clean, structured line. Underneath, everything changes: the midsole is raised to add height, transforming the proportions without altering the upper design.
