The Gazelle entered the market in 1966 in two suede versions: a red one with a translucent herringbone sole designed for indoor sports such as handball, and a blue one with a microcellular rubber sole intended for training. It was one of the first pieces of sports footwear made from suede, and adidas named it after the animal for its lightness and agility. The Indoor version is the direct heir to that original red model: the gum sole, designed for indoor courts.
The silhouette is narrow, flat and low, with leather Three Stripes running along the side and the model name printed on the quarter. The Aurora Coffee White combines a warm coffee brown suede upper with white stripes and toe box, finished with an amber gum sole: the Gazelle in its most autumnal and less commonly seen version.
